The coronation of King Charles III may be taking place at Westminster Abbey in London, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate it here in Norfolk. In this post, we will share the best Coronation events happening in Norfolk.

I will add more events to the list as they are announced, so check back periodically.

About the Coronation of King Charles III

On Saturday 6 May 2023, King Charles and Queen Camila will be crowned at a ceremony conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury at Westminster Abbey in London.

On Sunday 7 May 2023, a special Coronation Concert will be take place at Windsor Castle. The Big Coronation Lunch will also take place across the country.

On Monday 8 May 2023, everyone is encouraged to take part in The Big Help Out, which will encourage people to try volunteering and support projects in their local areas. 

Coronation Events in Norfolk

Just like during the Bank Holiday Weekend for the Platinum Jubilee, there will be plenty of events around Norfolk to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate this time.

Remember there can always be last minute changes (especially in case of bad weather) so please double check with the hosting organisation before setting off.

Coronation Celebration at Chantry Place

When: 22 April – 8 May

Chantry Place (formerly known as Chapelfield) in Norwich will once again be reinvented as Chantry Palace to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. You can take a fun photo with a royal throne, red carpet and royal backdrop for free.

The mall will also be decorated with colourful crowns made by local school children from Lionwood Infant School, The Free School Norwich, Magdalen Gates Primary School, Fairhaven C.E V.A Primary School and the Hamlet Centre.

Come and Sing Coronation Concert in Norwich

When: 29 April

Head to St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Norwich for a special Coronation concert organized by Framingham Earl Singers. The talented professional soloists and string ensemble will be performing, and you are invited to join in either as a singer or in the audience.

Coronation Market & Fayre at Walpole St. Peter

When: 29 – 30 April

With over 30 stalls selling a variety of gift and food items inside Walpole St. Peter Church, there will surely be something for everyone. In addition to the indoor stalls, there will be outdoor marquees where you can browse and purchase books, puzzles, CDs, DVDs, and games.

Itteringham May Fayre and Coronation Celebration

When: 1 May

This traditional village fayre will be celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III! It has something for everyone, including delicious lunches and afternoon teas, a cake stall, and a picnic parlour offering a variety of treats. Indulge in some ice cream while browsing through vintage and bygone items or enjoy a display of trick ponies and goats.

Don’t miss the military display and live singers as well as the fun dog show and car boot sale. Browse through a range of trade stalls and crafted items, get your face painted, or participate in games and activities provided by Fun Force. And don’t forget to enter the raffle or tombola for a chance to win some great prizes!

The event is open to all, with an entrance fee of £2.50 (children get in free!). Parking is also free, and dogs are very welcome.

Royal Afternoon Tea at Wroxham Barns

Open Evening in Honour of the King’s Coronation at Fairhaven Water Gardens

When: 5 May

Fairhaven Water Gardens is hosting an open evening to celebrate the Kings Coronation by planting a tree in his honour. They will also offer sample sessions of canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding for you to try.

The planting of the tree will take place at 18:00, followed by a chance to explore the gardens, bird hides, and take in the scenery. If you are feeling peckish, the tearoom will be open and serving up hot sausage rolls, pasties, cakes, snacks, and drinks to keep you fuelled throughout the evening.

Guests of all ages are welcome but you must book a ticket. You can bring along your furry friend, but they must be kept on leads at all times.

The King’s Coronation Celebration Street Party in Walsingham

When: 5 May

Little Walsingham will be hosting a Friday night village family street party to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and the Queen Consort. The evening will feature children’s entertainment, live music performances by the Pilgrim Jazz Quintet led by John Clark, and delicious refreshments to keep you fuelled throughout the night. Coronation Weekend at Norwich Cathedral

When: 5 – 7 May

There will be a weekend full of events to celebrate the Coronation at Norwich Cathedral. Starting with the Choral Evensong with special prayers for His Majesty The King on Friday. Then on Saturday you can watch the BBC coverage of the Coronation on a big screen in the nave.

Sunday there will be Festal Mattins followed by drinks in the Cloister, a Festal Evensong, and then the BBC coverage of the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle will be shown in the Nave.

Coronation Celebration Concert in Martham

When: 5 May

The Coronation of King Charles III will be marked with a special Coronation concert at St. Mary’s Church in Martham, where you can enjoy a program full of well-known patriotic classics. Entrance tickets are available for £10 per person at the door, and children under the age of 16 get in for free. There will also be complimentary refreshments.

Coronation Afternoon Tea at the Maids Head Hotel

When: 5 – 7 May

Enjoy a special very British Afternoon Tea along with a glass of Prosecco to toast His Majesty, The King, at one of the most haunted places in Norwich, the Maids Head Hotel. It’s only £24 per person but you need to call and book in advance.

Coronation Celebration at Sandringham

When: 6 – 8 May

You can watch the Coronation and Coronation Concert on big screens in the Royal Parkland at Sandringham. For the Big Coronation Lunch, there will be long communal tables in the Parkland. They will have live music and family fun too.

Sandringham Restaurant will be serving a special Coronation-inspired afternoon tea (book in advance) or you can get a picnic takeaway version from the Terrace Café (must be pre-ordered). Additionally, you can explore the Gardens or see an exhibition of Watercolours by His Majesty The King in the House (book your tickets in advance).

The Coronation on the Big Screen in Chapelfield Gardens

When: 6 May

Norwich will be hosting a celebration of the Coronation of King Charles with a free event at Chapelfield Gardens. Royal enthusiasts are invited to come together to watch the BBC’s Live Broadcast of the ceremony, which will be displayed on a massive 5m x 3m screen.

The screen will transmit the festivities as they unfold throughout the day. Bring your own chairs, picnic rugs, and hampers to make the most of the experience. Food will also be available for purchase, ranging from cupcakes to vegan and non-vegan dishes, as well as ice creams and hot and cold drinks.

The event will be perfect for families, with activities for children such as balloon modelling, stencil face painting, and a Make Your Own Crown workshop. Those with accessibility needs will also be catered for, with a fully accessible Mobiloo toilet available, complete with hoist and changing table (please bring your own sling if you wish to use the hoist).

Coronation Celebration in King’s Lynn

When: 6 – 7 May

On Saturday, you can watch the King’s Coronation on a big screen in King’s Staithe Square in King’s Lynn. After the ceremony, there will be entertainment, live music from artists including The Chebbs, and then fireworks at night.

Sunday will be a lazy afternoon in King’s Staithe with more music and entertainment on stage, along with fun activities for the kids between 12:00 and 17:00.

Aylsham Coronation Celebration

When: 6 May

You can watch the Coronation ceremony on the big screen in the Town Hall. There will be bacon rolls, tea and coffee served prior to the ceremony so get there early. You don’t need to book.

After the ceremony head to the Market Place where there will be music, food, and activities for the kids. You are welcome to bring a chair, table, snack, and drinks.

North Walsham Coronation Celebrations

When: 6 – 8 May

They have a full slate of events planned to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III in North Walsham. It all starts of with a fancy dress park run before the Coronation ceremony is shown at St. Nicholas Church. There will also be a Street Feast on Saturday with food stalls, live music, and free face painting in the Market Place.

On Sunday there will be a picnic and sports day at the Memorial Park. There will be children’s entertainment and a competition for the best dressed teddy bear. After that there will be a procession to St. Nicholas Church where they will have a Thanksgiving Service.

To wrap up the celebrations on Monday, they will have a craft market and voluntary sector fair in the Market Place. There will be free craft activities and face painting for the kids.

The Rosebery’s Coronation Street Party

When: 6 May

You are invited to a big Community Coronation Street Party! Head to Norman Road in Norwich with your own picnic to enjoy a delightful lunch amidst an array of activities such as swing dancing, kids crafts, face painting, games, and much more. Food and drink will also be available for purchase from The Rosebery Pub.

Coronation Market at the Forum

When: 6 May

You can visit the Coronation Celebration Market at the Forum in Norwich city centre. It will showcase the finest of the local craft scene, featuring over 40 stalls selling ceramics, prints, jewellery, homewares, and textiles, all crafted by skilled artisans. You’ll have the opportunity to shop both inside and outside the Forum and discover unique, handcrafted treasures. It’s all free entry.

In addition to the market stalls, they will also have a range of fun coronation crafting activities, including free giveaways and crown-making workshops. Be sure to arrive early to take advantage of this special offer – the first 40 customers will receive a branded tote bag.

Fakenham Coronation Street Party

When: 6 May

Join in a fantastic and free community event celebrating the coronation of the King! The ceremony will be live-streamed on a big screen and there will be lots of support from local pubs and businesses. Food and drink will be available for purchase, but feel free to bring along your own chairs, tables, and picnics for a comfortable and enjoyable day out.

To ensure everyone’s safety, the road will be closed to traffic most of the day.

When: 6 – 7 May

The Coronation Ceremony will be streamed live in the Thetford Marketplace on Saturday. On Sunday you can join in the outdoor street party in the Marketplace. Both events are free to attend. Bring your camp chairs and a picnic.

You can watch the buildup and the Coronation Ceremony on a big screen on The Green in Hunstanton. In the afternoon, there will be family-friendly entertainment including two sets from The Chebbs, a Pirate Magic show and much more.

When: 6 May

Head to Bawsey Country Park to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. There will be fun and games for the whole family and hot & cold refreshments available from The Hub Café.

When: 6 May

The Coronation Celebration at Fitzmaurice Park promises to be a great event for the entire family, with live music and entertainment, as well as a wide selection of delectable food and beverages to indulge in. It will be hosted by Olly Day, who you may have seen at the Cromer Pier Christmas Show.

King’s Coronation ‘Picnic in the Hall’ on the ‘Big Screen’ in Mulbarton

When: 6 May

Come and enjoy the Kings Coronation at Mulbarton Village Hall with a unique ‘Picnic in the Hall’ event, bringing the community together in our village hall.

Watch the Kings Coronation on the big screen and enjoy your own picnic from home, or pre-order a delightful afternoon tea from Blakeys Bus to be delivered on the day or collected and brought in. If you prefer to sit outside, bring your blankets and enjoy the garden. For those who need a seat, we will have chairs and tables set up inside.

Kids can participate in fun competitions such as colouring cut-out crowns, with prizes for the best entries. Don’t forget to bring your cakes for the bake sale and baking competition. The Mulbarton Sports & Social Club will be open all day for those who wish to purchase alcoholic drinks.

Coronation Celebration in Salhouse

Join the celebration of King Charles’ Coronation at Salhouse Playing Field. There will be a host of local food vendors on hand, including Churros & Chorizo and The Bucket List, as well as a firetruck bar courtesy of Redwell Brewery in Norwich. You can also enjoy live music from a variety of talented local bands and artists, a bouncy castle, an ice cream van, raffles, stalls, and even a football tournament for the younger ones.

This is an event for the whole family, so bring a blanket and a chair or two and settle in for the afternoon. The best part? It’s all free! Of course, putting on an event like this does come with costs, so you are kindly asked to bring some cash to drop into the donation buckets.

The celebration will go on rain or shine. And, in keeping with the King’s environmental work, you are encouraged to come on foot, by bike, or public transport as parking space is extremely limited on-site.

Community Coronation Celebration in Great Yarmouth Town Centre

When: 7 May

Celebrate the coronation of the new King at the community Funday on Church Plain and in the Minster grounds Organized by Kirsty’s Cakery, Parish of Great Yarmouth, and Gt Yarmouth Town Centre Partnership. This is a fantastic opportunity to come together with other community members and commemorate this historic occasion.

There will be a range of exciting activities on offer, including stalls, crafts, entertainment, a BBQ, and much more. After the Funday, the Coronation Service will be held in the Minster. Following the service, complimentary tea and cake sponsored by the Town Centre Partnership will be served.

Overstrand Coronation Street Party

When: 7 May

Heads to The Londs for a street party to celebrate the coronation. It will be hosted by Olly Day and Overstrand’s own In The Swing and Tom Dick & Harry.

Bring your own food and something to share. There will be free tea, coffee, and soft drinks in the Parish Hall. Other activities including a sandcastle competition (with prizes) and a crown treasure hunt.

You’re invited to join in a celebration of the King’s Coronation at Martham Playing Field hosted by Martham Parish Council in conjunction with Martham Social Club.

Come and join in the fun at North Wootton Village Hall’s street party-style event, which is part of the national Coronation Big Lunch celebration. Admission is completely free, as is all of the entertainment.

When: 7 May

Celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort in Holt. They will have a fancy dress competition for all ages, with prizes for the most colourful and creative outfits. Plus, show off your talents with in the homemade crown competition – anything from cake decorating to painting counts. There will also be classic games like egg and spoon races and three-legged races on the green, followed by hot drinks, scones, and cakes in the Village Hall. When: 8 May

A Coronation celebration will be held at North Lodge Park in Cromer. Bring along a picnic and enjoy children’s entertainers, sports, games, and crafts. There will also be a Royal Fancy Dress competition, community singalong, open mic sessions, community group displays, and more.

Coronation Cream Tea Challenge in Swaffham

When: 8 May

Help make history and get Swaffham into the world record books this Coronation weekend. The town is trying to gather as many people as possible to participate and break the record for the most cream teas served. The delicious cream tea will be served for free – all you have to do is eat it! They are hoping to have 1500 people come to break the current world record of 1088.

To accommodate everyone, extra parking is available at the high school and sheep field with free shuttle buses to and from the town.

Hethersett Parish Council – King’s Coronation Event

When: May 8

Enjoy a day of fun and celebrations to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III, sponsored by Taylor Wimpey Homes and hosted by Hethersett Parish Council. The event will take place at Hethersett Village Hall and field adjacent to the building on Back Lane, Hethersett, NR9 3JJ.

As part of the festivities, there will be a community picnic where residents can come together to celebrate community connections and enjoy an ice cream/crepe vendor, craft refreshments, face painting, marquee, live band, and other entertainment. Community groups are also encouraged to participate by putting on displays. Don’t forget to bring your picnic blanket!

In addition, members of the public and community groups are invited to take part in ‘The Big Help Out’, which encourages volunteering and highlights its positive impact on communities. Hethersett Parish Council welcomes community groups to promote awareness of their activities and engage with visitors.

Summer on the Mag – Coronation

Hainford Coronation Fete

When: 8 May

Hainford is having a traditional village fete in honour of the Coronation of King Charles III! The event will take place on the playing field by the village hall with free entry (although donations to the hall are greatly appreciated). Bring your own picnic and enjoy live music, dancing, tractor and train rides, a dog show, and drinks. Please note that parking will be limited to drop-off only, but you can use the village’s millennium carpark by the church and take a tractor ride back to the hall.
